AS LEO drove to the club, Tony stared out of the window. All he could think of was some nameless, faceless thugs touching his friends, hurting them, killing Mike and Jordan, fuck, Jordan.

“Baby, are you okay?” Leo squeezed his thigh.

Tony made a sound. “Not really.”

“Not surprising. You’re very fond of Jordan, aren’t you?”

Tony looked over to see if there really was an edge to Leo’s voice. “We’ve been friends since he joined the club.”

“Just friends?”

Tony leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes. He couldn’t deal with the weight of Leo’s unasked questions. Not now. Not when he didn’t know if Jordan was alive or dead.

“I’m sorry, Tony. I know the answer to the question, and it’s stupid of me to throw a jealousy fit now.”

Leo patted his leg.

“I wanted him, but he never wanted me as a sub. I made my peace with that. He was still a good friend.”

“He’s still a good friend, and he may not have wanted you, but he’s very possessive about you.”

“Yeah.” Tony’s phone rang again, and he answered it. “Hi, Frankie? Yeah, Marchant told me. We’re on our way to the club. Yeah, see you there.”

“Frankie’s heard the news?” Leo asked.

“They’re going to the club.”

“We’ll be there soon.”

It was midafternoon, and the schools were just coming out. It seemed to take forever to negotiate the traffic, but eventually they pulled up outside the club. Tony pointed his lover to his usual parking space.

As Tony got out of the car, a jeep pulled alongside. Frankie sprung out of the passenger seat, rushed around to Tony, and clung to him.

“Hey.” Tony patted Frankie’s back.

“Hi, Tony.”

Al, Frankie’s boyfriend, got out of the car. He was a member of the club, although he spent less time there since he’d met Frankie.

“Hi, Al. Have you heard anything new?”

“Not yet.” Al looked at Leo, who’d been waiting patiently by the car. “Hi, Leo.”

Tony held out his hand for Leo. He felt like a giant compared to the three men, even though Al and Leo weren’t that short. He sighed inwardly. It wasn’t the first time, and it probably wouldn’t be the last time he felt his height was a disadvantage.

Inside the club, the men were greeted by Ed. He looked gray and drawn. Frankie rushed over to give him a hug, which he gratefully accepted.

“Marchant’s gone to the hospital to see if he can get any more information. He asked if Tony could run the club while he’s gone.”

“Sure. Have we got anyone to mind the bar?”

“Yes. Gary is coming in.”

“I’m going to the hospital,” Ed said. “Marchant’s distraught. He needs me.”

“We’ll take you,” Al said. “Tony, can you get us all a drink first?”

Infuriated by the way they’d made plans without even discussing it with him and then just casually threw an order at him, Tony stalked off to the bar. He knew he had to step up and look after the place, but he was closer to Jordan than probably anyone there except Al. No one seemed to give a shit about his feelings.
